Browsing in Blackberry Pearl can be fun and here are some tips for you can take maximum advantage of the browser feature.

Following are some Browser tips available on your Blackberry Pearl:

Hot Keys

Blackberry Browser shortcuts are not complex combinations of keys, rather they are simple keystrokes you can take advantage of directly from your Blackberry keyboard.

  • D: Sends the Browser to the Background
  • G: Bring up the “Go To” screen
  • X: Bring up the web page preview/map screen
  • Esc: Goes back to the previous page
  • Press and Hold Esc: Closes the browser
  • T: Go to the Top of the page
  • B: Go to the Bottom of the page
  • R: Refresh the current page
  • Alt + F: Find Next
  • M: Request More Images to be downloaded (if any)
  • K: Go to the Bookmarks screen
  • S: Save the current web page to the message list
  • F/V: Bring up the Search/Find window
  • Q: Request All Images to be downloaded (if any)
  • C: Display the connection information screen
  • Alt + O/Shift + SPACE: Page up
  • Alt + P/SPACE: Page down
  • P: Display the address of the current page
  • L: Display the address of the currently selected link
  • A: Add a bookmark for the current page
  • U: Toggle the title bar on/off
  • I: View History
  • O: Go to the Browser Options screen

Delete Bookmarks

You can only delete folders and bookmarks that you created.

You can not delete the folders or bookmarks that are on the device out of the box. you can try to open BlackBerry Desktop Manager, connect BB, go to backup/restore > click advanced, in the pane on the right highlight , Browser Bookmarks and press clear.
This will remove ALL bookmarks.

Now on your BlackBerry open the browser and add back the bookmarks you want.

Set Browser Home Page

  1. In the Browser application, press Menu.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Select Browser Configuration.
  4. In the Home Page Address field, type a web address or change the Start Page field.
  5. Press Menu.
  6. Select Save Options.

Speed up browser

Turn Off Show Images: Downloading images takes a lot of bandwidth, and strains your BlackBerry when loading them.

From the Browser Options “> Browser Configuration screen, set Show Images = no, and uncheck Use Background Images.

Turn Off JavaScript Support: Some JavaScripts are very large and can™t be processed by your BlackBerry anyways, so turning off JavaScript support will not only save on bandwidth, but on processing time by your BlackBerry.

PS: You can easily download the images for any page by pressing M for more images, or Q for all images.

Tips – URLs

To insert a period, press the SPACE.
To insert a slash ‘/’, press Shift + SPACE
